HISTORY
Finca Abrells was built in the early 1930s and remained in the hands of the Valencian Sos family for nearly a century. This family is well-known for their rice brand, Sos Arroz, which was established by José Borras Sos. It became a staple in every Spanish household, and even today, Sos Arroz continues to thrive, reaching customers in 30 countries!
The Sos family owned numerous rice farms, where they cultivated and harvested rice, but they also invested in this beautiful orange grove, which served as their summer retreat in the Abrells area of Carcaixent. According to local lore, this was the family's favorite residence, where they cherished their summer days together.
Carcaixent experienced significant economic and population growth in the 18th century, largely due to silk production. However, by the late 18th and early 19th centuries, the landscape shifted as orange trees replaced the silk crops, establishing Carcaixent as the birthplace and vibrant center of orange cultivation, which flourished in the 19th and 20th centuries. The region's success in orange production can be attributed to its unique geographical features, including an underground aquifer and a favorable Mediterranean climate.
Today Carcaixent's economiy still remains its agricultural character and has developed the Orange Route to honor its agricultural, commercial, and cultural heritage, drawing visitors from around the globe.
